- TEETH - An Owner's Manual
Oral
Disease:
Plaque
|
| Teeth should last for a lifetime. All
people, however, are susceptible to oral diseases such as caries (tooth decay) and
periodontitis (infection of the supportive tissue of the teeth). These tow diseases
are the major causes of tooth loss and the major cause of both these diseases is plaque.
Caries and Periodontitis
- Caries is an oral disease which causes the tooth structure itself to decay.
- Periodontitis is a disease that attacks the supportive tissue (gums, periodontal
ligament and bone) of teeth, causing progressive degeneration.
